Family migration to Australia refers to the process of sponsoring and bringing family members to live permanently in Australia. The Australian government offers various visa options under the Family Stream to reunite Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens with their family members. Partner Visas

Partner visas are available for individuals who are married to or in a de facto relationship with an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. There are two main categories:

  • Partner (Provisional) Visa (subclass 309): This visa allows applicants to live temporarily in Australia until a decision is made on their permanent Partner visa application.
  • Partner (Migrant) Visa (subclass 100): This visa is granted after the temporary Partner visa, allowing the applicant to live in Australia permanently with their partner.

Parent Visas

Parent visas enable parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to migrate to Australia. These visas have several categories:

  • Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa (subclass 173): Allows temporary residence in Australia for up to two years.
  • Contributory Parent (Migrant) Visa (subclass 143): Grants permanent residency to parents who have held a subclass 173 visa.
  • Parent (Temporary) Visa (subclass 870): Allows parents to live in Australia for up to five years without requiring a sponsorship from their child.

Child Visas

Child visas are available for children who are dependent on an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. There are various options depending on the circumstances:

  • Child (Subclass 101) Visa: For children outside Australia who have an eligible parent living in Australia.
  • Orphan Relative (Subclass 117) Visa: For children under 18 years who are orphaned or unable to be cared for by their parents.
  • Adoption (Subclass 102) Visa: For children adopted or to be adopted by an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • Dependent Child (Subclass 445) Visa: For children of a temporary visa holder in Australia.

Other Family Visas

There are additional visa options available for other family members:

  • Aged Dependent Relative (Subclass 114/838) Visa: For older dependent relatives of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens.
  • Remaining Relative (Subclass 115/835) Visa: For individuals who have no close relatives outside Australia.
  • Carer (Subclass 116/836) Visa: For individuals who are willing and able to provide substantial and continuing care or assistance to an Australian relative with a medical condition.
